Popular history as a starting point

Accessible history books can introduce a subject without limiting how far their readers go in understanding it.

Notes

Popular histories can make a subject approachable without setting a maximum level of understanding for their readers. Rejecting them simply because they are popular dismisses their usefulness. Assuming that their audience cannot understand anything more demanding is equally limiting. These books can be starting points for further reading.
