How to influence a political party from within

A discussion of local party membership explains how voters can influence policy by joining the party that most closely matches their views and campaigning within it.

Notes

Political participation can begin with joining a local party or pressure group and arguing for change inside it. No party will match every voter perfectly, so the practical choice is often the one a person agrees with most, or disagrees with least. Members can then persuade others and move the organisation toward their preferred policies. In this view, democratic influence comes from sustained participation instead of waiting for a perfectly aligned party.
