The Liberty ship account places Piorun with the merchant ships of JW 52 while Orkan serves with the distant battleship screen. On the homebound RA 53 convoy, the two destroyers exchange those duties. Orkan and HMS Milne then leave the convoy to search for merchant ships separated by a severe gale, and Orkan brings the Harnett to safety. Orkan is later lost while escorting SC 143, when a homing torpedo from U-378 sinks her. HMS Musketeer rescues survivors, but Orkan's commander, Stanislaw Hryniewiecki, is among those lost.
