Photograph rights and cover art belong in a book budget

The cost of an illustrated history includes permission to reproduce photographs and fair payment for the artist who creates its cover.

Notes

Archive research does not automatically provide the right to reproduce every image found there. Imperial War Museum licensing could have added a large expense, while access to Drachinifel's private collection reduced the cost of illustrating this book. The cover creates a separate obligation because commissioned artists must be paid for their work. Image permissions and creative labour belong in the publication budget rather than being treated as free decoration.
