Question

If the Philippine Navy ordered six Abukuma-class destroyer escorts in the late 1980s, could Japan afford all eleven ships in its own plan?

Short answer

Probably. The extra order would help, but completion of all eleven Japanese ships is not guaranteed.

Notes

A Philippine order for six Abukuma-class destroyer escorts would probably help Japan complete the eleven ships it planned. The additional order is treated as favorable to the program, with no firm promise that all eleven would be built. No estimate of the saving per ship is given.
