Question

Should the Philippines consider acquiring guided-missile destroyers in the longer term?

Short answer

Yes eventually, but it should first strengthen its broader force structure, including useful amphibious capability.

Notes

Philippine guided-missile destroyers make sense in the longer term, after the navy strengthens its wider force structure. A lower-end LHD is the immediate option proposed for consideration because it could support raiding and island-securing operations.
