Philip Vian's Action This Day is an insider's account of organizing and commanding the British Pacific Fleet. Vian began the war as a Tribal-class destroyer flotilla captain and ended it as a vice admiral leading the fleet's carrier striking force. That career arc connects small-ship leadership with the management of a large carrier-centered formation. The book explains the British Pacific Fleet's work from the perspective of one of its senior operators.
