Penelope's battle-honour list gives a poor measure of how active she was. Many assignments were operations that did not receive a separate honour, while others were absorbed into a broad theatre award such as the Mediterranean. Formal commemoration therefore compresses her operational record. Reading the honours alone would hide much of the work behind them.

Why Penelope's battle honours understate her service
Penelope's long list of operations did not produce an equally long list of named battle honours because many actions were grouped under broad theatre awards.
