Pembroke after the Civil War: stone removal and restoration

Civil War damage and later stone removal left Pembroke ruined until restoration began in the nineteenth century.

Notes

Pembroke was severely slighted after the Civil War. Local people then removed stone, and the ruins remained neglected and overgrown for centuries. Restoration began in the nineteenth century. The castle also has a dynastic connection as the birthplace of Henry Tudor, later Henry VII.
