Peking Plan links naval escape to a Romanian bridgehead

Polish naval evacuation supports a wider plan to keep the army supplied through Romania while preserving destroyers for Allied service.

Notes

The Peking Plan gave Polish surface ships a continuing task after leaving the Baltic. If the army withdrew toward the Romanian border, supplies could arrive through Romanian ports in convoys escorted by Polish ships operating from Britain. The British military mission helped persuade the Polish high command that evacuation would preserve ships otherwise exposed to German air attack. Submarines received a separate defensive plan. A prearranged signal would send the surface ships through the Danish straits to Britain.
