Why peacetime firing limits do not prove a gun cannot fire

Exercise restrictions meant to prevent blast damage do not define the physical limits of a turret arrangement in battle.

Notes

Navies avoid firing superfiring guns directly over lower turrets or across decks during exercises because blast can damage sights, fittings, and other expensive equipment. That restriction manages avoidable peacetime cost; it does not mean the weapon physically cannot fire through the arc. In battle, accepting repairable blast damage can be justified when the alternative is failing to hit the enemy.
