Parry carries specialist judgment into senior command

Parry's later career included command of HMS Renown, work apparently connected with D-Day anti-submarine planning, postwar intelligence reform, and Commonwealth leadership.

Notes

Parry's later appointments included command of HMS Renown and senior naval work connected with D-Day. His exact D-Day duties remain uncertain, although he appears to have worked on anti-submarine risks and the measures needed to reduce them. As Director of Naval Intelligence after the war, he pushed the organization beyond its wartime focus on the Axis and toward fresh assessments of former allies, former enemies, and states that might become either. He then served as the last Royal Navy chief of staff of the Royal Indian Navy. Officers under his command and most politicians respected him, suggesting that he also handled the diplomatic side of the post well.
