Proposals for littoral strike ships and groups can be compared directly with Operation Palliser. An enhanced-company concept resembled the light force that first landed, although Palliser used two Parachute Regiment companies and had more personnel, equipment, and a complete amphibious ready group already approaching. When the Royal Marines took over, the force offered a full commando even without armoured personnel carriers or other heavy vehicles. That was enough firepower for this particular crisis. The light force was credible as a spearhead because heavier maritime backing stood behind it.

Palliser’s light force needed heavy backing
Palliser shows that an enhanced-company littoral force works as a spearhead when reinforcements, equipment, and a larger maritime package stand behind it.
