The two remaining crews covered twenty-two miles in about six hours on one night, then fifteen miles in a similar period on the next. A strong ebb tide reduced their progress to nine miles on the night of 10-11 December. The worsening rate of advance forced Hasler to postpone the attack originally planned for 10 December until the night of 11-12 December. The crews hid during the day and prepared their limpet mines. With only Catfish and Crayfish available, Hasler assigned the western side of the docks to Catfish and the eastern side to Crayfish.
