Chapter · 8:39-16:47

The Pacific Fleet battle line on 6 December 1941

A ship-by-ship outline shows the battleships, cruisers, and destroyer formations available for a hypothetical fleet sortie from Pearl Harbor.

Notes

The scenario opens with a battle line built around the Pennsylvania, Nevada, and Tennessee classes. Colorado is initially included, then identified as being at Puget Sound, so her participation depends on advance preparation rather than the fleet's historical Pearl Harbor order of battle. The harbor force also included New Orleans- and Brooklyn-class cruisers, Omaha-class flotilla leaders, and destroyer formations whose older ships might be pressed into service. The force has formidable gun power, but its comparatively small cruiser component limits how it can scout and screen. Rear Admiral Isaac Kidd oversaw the battleship formations, William Pye commanded the Battle Force, and Husband Kimmel would probably take overall command if the sortie sailed as the Pacific Fleet rather than a detached task force.
