A P.1154 fleet fighter could have reshaped Invincible

A counterfactual explores how a surviving naval P.1154 might have produced larger Invincible-class air groups and earlier Sea King airborne early warning.

Notes

The Royal Navy's withdrawal ended the joint program despite the RAF's attempt to continue it. The counterfactual asks what might have followed if the Navy had remained in the domestic supersonic V/STOL effort and fielded a fleet fighter around 1970. One possibility is an Invincible class designed from the outset for a much larger mixed air group, perhaps with barrier-assisted recovery, rather than the smaller wartime mix seen in 1982. A capable high-speed fighter would also have strengthened the case for developing airborne-early-warning Sea Kings before the Falklands War.
