Very large weapons found in collections are not automatically evidence for exceptional battlefield equipment. Some were made as status symbols or wall decorations, while others could combine captured weapons into a commemorative trophy. Their impractical scale is part of the display rather than a defect in an intended fighting tool. Oversized ceremonial crosses made to remain visible during a procession offer a useful comparison. Form, setting, and social function matter before an artefact is classified as a combat weapon.
