An uncontrolled attack unraveled Japan's torpedo formation

Osugi's destroyers pressed ahead without tracking the heavy-cruiser flagship's maneuver, helping produce a collision and forcing the Japanese torpedo attack to be abandoned.

Notes

Morikazu Osugi's aggression had direct tactical consequences. His right-wing destroyers charged ahead without noticing that the flagship had changed course across their route. Myoko then rammed Hatsukaze, and Wakatsuki had to make an extreme maneuver to avoid Haguro. With friendly heavy cruisers obstructing the firing line, Osugi cancelled the torpedo attack, turning poor formation awareness into lost offensive power.
