Nagano's career and wartime fall from favour

Osami Nagano rose through the Imperial Japanese Navy to marshal admiral, then lost his post when wartime results fell short.

Notes

The opening follows Nagano's promotions through the Imperial Japanese Navy and his elevation to marshal admiral in 1943. That honour came shortly before he was pushed aside because Japan had not achieved the successes expected of his command. His senior title therefore gives a misleading impression of his actual wartime standing. Nagano's record is better judged by the strategic results of the system he led than by rank alone.
