Operation Tenement and the limits of raiding claims

The raid on Symi shows how Jellicoe's SBS combined motor launches and local craft, while also inviting caution about claims of forces tied down.

Notes

Operation Tenement, the raid on Symi, was a larger maritime operation using ten motor launches alongside schooners and armed caïques. This mixture of craft let Jellicoe's SBS carry more combat power than a two-man folding-boat team and even defeat an encountered German E-boat. Raids across the Aegean, Adriatic, and nearby coasts forced defenders to cover many possible landing points. The resulting claim that six German divisions were tied down also reflected pressure from local partisans and SOE networks, so the effect cannot be credited to the SBS alone.
