After joining Atlantic patrol and the Halifax escort force, Enterprise transported £10 million in British bullion to Canada during Operation Fish in October 1939. The cargo illustrates why a fast, reliable cruiser could become part of national financial survival as well as naval operations. In the Norwegian campaign she bombarded positions near Narvik and survived an unsuccessful U-65 attack while operating with Warspite. She then carried roughly a third of Norway's national treasury to Britain, reinforcing the ship's unusual association with successful gold movements.
