Operation Chariot's dockyard assault teams

C. E. Lucas Phillips's account of the St Nazaire Raid follows a commando team clearing and demolishing German gun positions beside the dock.

Notes

The final selection turns to the St Nazaire Raid, also known as Operation Chariot. Roy's commando team disembarks from the destroyer's forecastle, supports a wounded sergeant, and moves through the dockyard using knowledge learned from a detailed model. Bamboo scaling ladders show how closely each party prepared for its assigned structures and obstacles. After German troops flee and a Tommy gun jams, the attackers use grenades to clear gun positions 64 and 65 on the pumping-station roof. They then demolish the abandoned weapons, completing their assigned task inside the larger dockyard assault. This ground-level episode presents the raid as a collection of rehearsed assault and demolition missions alongside the destroyer strike against the dry dock.
