Operation Angelo achieved considerable success, but only David Sutherland and Duggan avoided capture and returned to the submarines. The loss of the section's captain and so many trained raiders devastated a unit whose strength had already been falling. Tactical success could not preserve the organisation after the loss of so much specialist manpower. What remained was folded into the SAS Folding Boat Section rather than continuing independently.

Operation Angelo and the collapse of the independent folding-boat force
