Omori later directed the Kaiten special-attack program

After being relieved over Empress Augusta Bay, Omori returned to torpedo training and eventually directed the division responsible for Kaiten human-guided torpedoes.

Notes

Relief after Empress Augusta Bay did not end Sentaro Omori's naval career. He returned to the torpedo school and was promoted to vice admiral. From September 1944 to August 1945 he directed the Special Attack Division responsible for the Kaiten human-guided torpedo program. His conventional torpedo expertise thus led into responsibility for Japan's late-war suicide weapons.
