Öland trades maximum speed for Baltic endurance

Öland's 35-knot maximum was slower than Visby's, but a 2,500-nautical-mile range at 20 knots allowed more Baltic movement between refuelling stops.

Notes

The Öland class took Swedish destroyers far beyond the small prewar types. Displacement approached that of a Tribal-class destroyer, at roughly 1,850 tons standard and 2,400 tons fully loaded. Top speed fell from the preceding class's 39 knots to 35 knots. Endurance increased to about 2,500 nautical miles at 20 knots. In the Baltic, that allowed repeated crossings of the operating area before refuelling. The design accepted a lower maximum speed in exchange for more sustained movement.
