A large SSGN can bring the missile load for a saturation attack into position in a single concealed hull. One proposed replacement for the four converted Ohios is converting younger Ohio boats or adapting new ballistic-missile submarines to the same role. The operational advantage is that placing one submarine near the target can be easier than positioning several boats to deliver an equivalent strike. Distributing the weapons has advantages of its own, including attacks from different directions. It also reduces how much firepower disappears if any one submarine is lost.

SSGN missile capacity and distributed submarine strikes
Large SSGNs concentrate a covert saturation strike in one hull, while distributed launch platforms reduce the loss from any single casualty.
