Soviet destroyer armament balanced guns, torpedoes, and mines

Four 130 mm guns and a varied torpedo, mine, and depth-charge outfit gave these destroyers several roles, with a full mine load obstructing torpedo use.

Notes

These destroyers combined four 130 mm guns with anti-aircraft weapons, two triple 21-inch torpedo mountings, and provision for mines or depth charges. The quoted mine capacity was 60 to 95, compared with 25 depth charges. Extra depth-charge racks on the mine rails are suggested as a possible alternative, with an uncertain recollection that wartime ships sometimes used them. A full mine load had to be cleared before the torpedoes could be used because the rails ran alongside the mountings. The arrangement gave one hull several missions while restricting which weapons could operate together.
