The wider Novik family numbered 53 ships, but some were not built until 1925. Novik herself was laid down in 1910, launched in 1911, and commissioned in 1913. The Derzky group followed with launches between October 1913 and July 1914, and many descendants later served with the Soviet Navy. One Black Sea example left Russia with Wrangel's fleet, was interned at Bizerte in Tunisia, and was scrapped in 1924. Another is described as among the first Soviet naval ships sunk by a Stuka dive bomber. Individual ships had useful speed and power, but the prolonged programme failed to deliver the required force soon enough.
