Attached to Fifth Battle Squadron for much of Jutland, Nottingham and Second Light Cruiser Squadron engaged Wiesbaden before German battleships forced them away. They disabled torpedo boat V48 and later met the Fourth Scouting Group at very close range in the night fighting. Southampton suffered badly and sank an opposing cruiser, while Nottingham escaped hits. Nottingham nevertheless fired 136 six-inch shells and one torpedo, giving a concrete measure of a light cruiser's ammunition expenditure during a fleet action.
