Norwegian mobilization and the first Narvik failure

A counterfactual examines how a clear nationwide order to defend neutrality might have changed Germany's seizure of Narvik.

Notes

The Norwegian confrontation is treated separately from the later British destroyer actions at Narvik. In this counterfactual, a clear radio order to mobilize and resist every unauthorized foreign entry could have produced organized defense even if German ships still reached the shore through fog. The comparison invokes the more explicit armed-neutrality posture associated with Switzerland and Sweden. Uncertain local command sympathies matter less here than the institutional problem that units lacked an unmistakable national order to act.
