Norway exercises fell far below wartime scale

Prewar training preserved cold-weather skill but rehearsed only a fraction of the amphibious force later landed at San Carlos.

Notes

Before 1982 the Royal Marines still trained on the northern flank, but Norway exercises had been reduced to administrative landings by roughly one company group. The Falklands landing through San Carlos put ashore approximately fifteen company groups, including attached Parachute Regiment units. Even measured only against the Royal Marines' nine companies, the exercise scale was far short of the wartime formation. The administrative event could not rehearse the command, shipping, and logistics interactions demanded by a full brigade landing.
