Northampton’s overseas, reserve, and training career

Nelson’s sister spent seven years on the North America and West Indies Station before reserve cruises and a second career as a boys’ training ship.

Notes

Northampton commissioned in 1879 and served for seven years on the North America and West Indies Station. After overseas service she entered reserve but continued to take part in annual training cruises. In 1894 she became a boys' training ship, extending her usefulness beyond front-line station duty. She finally paid off in 1904 and was scrapped in 1905, a different career from Nelson's prominent political role in Australia.
