Who really led the Nore mutiny?

Richard Parker's prominence masks uncertainty over who organized the fleet-wide action and how its delegates were chosen.

Notes

The seizure of HMS Sandwich at five bells of the dog watch provides a proposed explanation for the Royal Navy's later avoidance of that signal. Richard Parker, a former master's mate recently returned to service after disrating and court martial, became the movement's public leader. His short time back in the Navy makes it doubtful that Parker alone could have organized a fleet-wide action. As at Spithead, experienced petty officers may have done much of the real coordination, leaving the delegate structure and selection of figureheads historically uncertain.
