Nine-inch guns let the heavy cruisers inflict real damage

Even in an unequal fight, the German heavy cruisers' nine-inch guns are credited with causing more damage than lighter weapons could manage.

Notes

The simulated heavy cruisers are badly outmatched once their escorts sink. Their nine-inch guns still inflict meaningful damage on the battlecruisers. That result separates the ability to hurt a superior opponent from the ability to survive the engagement. It also shows why gun calibre matters when a smaller combatant must threaten a capital ship.
