Standardise NATO systems rather than hulls

Shared weapons, sensors, and command systems offered practical NATO interoperability while national hulls met national missions.

Notes

NFR-90 had a narrower and more workable standardisation target. NATO could share weapons, sensors, and command systems so coalition ships used compatible equipment and interfaces. Each navy could then choose its own machinery and hull around national endurance, accommodation, and operating requirements. This approach would simplify logistics and interoperability without forcing unlike missions into one ship design.
