The Nelson Touch: pilot discipline under the pressure of royal status

A prince serving as an ordinary pilot must distinguish deserved military discipline from the arbitrary treatment associated with his royal status.

Notes

In The Nelson Touch, a young pilot seeks privacy aboard a fleet carrier after breaking formation and starting a fight. He is Prince Henry, serving under the name Charles Augustus, and his desire to earn distinction grows out of years of palace restrictions and media scrutiny. His education has alternated between unearned rewards and undeserved punishment, making fair treatment difficult for him to recognize. Here he accepts that both the reprimand and the punishment were deserved. He resolves to concentrate on becoming a better pilot and to apologize to the other pilot, despite resenting the forced apologies of his earlier life. Limited privacy aboard ship leaves little room to work through these conflicts away from other personnel.
