Putting Nelson and Collingwood off Cadiz

Follow the move from the Finisterre campaign to the blockade that held Villeneuve's fleet in Cadiz.

Notes

The campaign continued for months after Cape Finisterre. Villeneuve remained fearful of the Channel Fleet, interpreting even limited British sightings as evidence of a much larger force. Collingwood was sent to take charge of the blockade of Cadiz while Nelson prepared to return to sea. Victory first needed fresh provisions, water, and attention in harbour. Calder's subsequent departure with a 98-gun ship reduced the heavy force available off Cadiz.
