Chapter ยท 2:01-7:36

Designing a Nelrod-style County cruiser

A 1930s heavy-cruiser thought experiment rebuilds the County class around the forward-concentrated Nelrod layout.

Notes

The hypothetical ship is a 1930s Royal Navy heavy cruiser set against an Italian contemporary. It interprets the County concept through a Nelrod layout, and the discussion does not present it as a historical proposal. All-or-nothing protection is paired with 32-knot speed, geared turbines, veteran crew standards, four-inch secondaries, and torpedoes. Three triple eight-inch turrets are concentrated forward. Each choice consumes displacement and affects the ship's balance.
