The Four Year Plan and Nazi administrative rivalry

Nazi Germany's production failures are linked to Göring's Four Year Plan, competing departments, and officials seeking proximity to Hitler.

Notes

German wartime production appears here as an administrative problem as well as an engineering one. Placing Hermann Göring over the Four Year Plan did not create a coherent system because his office fought other departments over authority and resources. Officials also competed to move closer to Hitler, turning personal access into another source of institutional rivalry. The result was a fragmented war economy in which political competition obstructed the organisation needed for reliable mass production.
