How Navy Board powers moved into the Admiralty

Abolishing the Navy Board transferred rather than erased its construction, supply, and Controller functions, concentrating much of them under the Third Sea Lord.

Notes

The Surveyor's construction authority eventually fed into the Director of Naval Construction, while many other Navy Board functions moved beneath the Third Sea Lord. Abolition transferred the board's administrative inheritance instead of erasing it. The Third Sea Lord's office became the organizational successor to much of the old board and continued handling procurement, infrastructure, and fleet support until later restructuring. This inheritance explains why apparently subordinate Admiralty posts retained powers rooted in centuries-old offices.
