Chapter ยท 4:37-7:17

Why Navarino disrupts the post-Napoleonic peace story

The opening places the 1827 fleet battle inside a longer Greek war and explains why losing a fleet was decisive in a maritime theater.

Notes

Navarino challenges the simple idea that Europe passed from the Napoleonic Wars into an era of peace. The video introduces it as a major episode in the 1821-1829 Greek War of Independence rather than an isolated clash. Greece's geography made troops, supplies, and political influence heavily dependent on maritime movement. Destroying the Ottoman-Egyptian fleet therefore changed the war far beyond the ships lost inside the bay.
