Small ship models allow more of a naval battle to fit on a table, although very small miniatures can be difficult to see and handle. The comparison moves from 1:6000 models to the larger 1:1800 ships used for War at Sea and Victory at Sea. A criticism of the latter scale concerns how much room the models occupy on the table specified by the game. Cruel Seas receives a similar criticism for using 1:300 models where smaller models would leave more manoeuvring space.

Why miniature scale affects room to manoeuvre
Miniatures must leave enough table space for manoeuvre as well as remain readable to the players.
