Readable naval history still needs visible sources

An enjoyable book may still be unsuitable for recommendation when readers cannot trace its claims.

Notes

A book can be well written and pleasant to read without being sufficiently researched for use as history. Footnotes, endnotes, in-text references, and a clear account of where information came from allow claims to be tested and direct students to the underlying evidence. The review standard therefore combines readability with transparent sourcing rather than treating either quality as enough on its own.
