The Entente Cordiale of 1904 did not remove every source of diplomatic strain. Relations with Russia and later crises still influenced Britain's position. If a serious German naval challenge disappeared and events such as the Moroccan crisis took a different course, the Entente could weaken or fall apart. Under those conditions, and provided Germany avoided Belgium, Britain might remain outside a continental war against the Triple Alliance.

How a German naval retreat could weaken the Entente
A reduced German naval threat could change Britain's continental commitments, but relations with Russia, later crises, and Belgium remain conditions on that outcome.
