Naval architects' papers preserve X-lighter specifications and testimony

Walter Pollock's written contribution combines X-lighter specifications with his claim to have designed the original powered landing craft.

Notes

The transactions of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects preserve formal papers, plans, photographs, and comments from practitioners. Walter Pollock submitted a written contribution about the X-lighters he designed for Lord Fisher in 1915. He supplied dimensions, engine details, and an account of how quickly troops could disembark. He also claimed that these boats were the original powered landing craft and the prototype for many built in 1940.
