Naval turrets offered little direct template for tank design

Multi-gun ship mountings, large crews, and far greater internal volume limited how much naval turret practice could transfer to a tank.

Question

How much did naval turret design influence tank turrets?

Short answer

Less than might be expected, because ship turrets usually carried several guns and had far more space and crew than a tank turret.

Notes

Tanks usually center one gun, while contemporary ships commonly group several guns in one mounting. Even a relatively small twin four-inch naval mount had much more internal volume than a tank turret. It could also employ roughly twice a tank's total crew to operate a single mounting and its supporting systems. Those differences in space, manpower, ammunition handling, and machinery limited direct design transfer. Superficial visual similarity did not mean the two systems shared the same engineering requirements.
