Nautilus in Operation Albion

Operation Albion shows Nautilus supporting a combined Baltic operation of mine clearance, bombardment, and landings.

Notes

Nautilus joined the Fourth Cruiser Squadron for Operation Albion, the 12 to 20 October 1917 assault on the West Estonian archipelago. The operation combined mine clearance, naval bombardment of coastal batteries, and troop landings. Russian forces withdrew after the fighting around Moon Sound, while Germany captured roughly 20,000 prisoners and 100 guns. In this interpretation, the loss of an army, a naval base, and territory regarded as part of greater Russia dealt another blow to the existing regime. Operation Albion was one contributor to the political crisis surrounding the October Revolution.
