The Tribal destroyers helped carry troops, fuel, and supplies into Namsos during the Allied campaign in central Norway. Their size allowed General Adrian Carton de Wiart to use them as a command base and as practical support for his headquarters. When withdrawal was ordered, Carton de Wiart doubted that his whole force could be removed in a single night, but the Navy accomplished it. The ships recovered as many stores as circumstances allowed while extracting the troops. Their general-purpose layout supported command, logistics, and emergency evacuation far beyond torpedo attack.
