Why the Namsos campaign offered a strategic opportunity

The often-overlooked Central Norway campaign may have offered a way to cut off a large part of the German advance if the Allies supplied the force at Namsos properly.

Notes

The Central Norway campaign has received less attention than other Norwegian operations. A properly supported force at Namsos could have cut off a substantial part of the German advance. The expedition never received the aircraft or other support needed to exploit that possibility. Major-General Adrian Carton de Wiart commanded a land operation whose dependence on destroyers makes army-navy cooperation central to its history.
