Chapter · 22:42-24:31

The N class adapted the design for wartime air attack

The N class sacrificed one quintuple torpedo mounting and altered its light weapons to gain a more useful high-angle anti-aircraft battery.

Notes

The N class reduced the torpedo battery from ten tubes to five and added a single high-angle 4-inch gun. Four single 20 mm Oerlikons formed part of its revised light anti-aircraft armament as built. Its standard displacement is given as 1,800 tons and deep-load displacement as 2,422 tons, increases of different sizes over the J design. ASDIC, a single depth-charge rack and two throwers remained, as did the 36-knot maximum speed. The ships retained the basis of a full fleet destroyer while using the available space for a stronger air-defence fit.
